What Do It Anyway collects, why, and what you can do about it — in plain language, then in full below.
Do It Anyway is an accountability app: you track things you're avoiding, see a live global feed of other people avoiding or finishing the same things, optionally post proof when you're done, and get anonymous "Respect" from others — no comments, no followers, no public profile beyond what you choose to share.
This policy covers the mobile app only. It explains what we collect, why, who else touches it, and how to get your data removed.
Account information. If you use the app as a guest, we assign an anonymous device identifier — no name, email, or phone number required. If you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive the identifier and (if you allow it) the name/email those services share with us, and link it to your existing guest data.
Profile information you add. Display name, bio, avatar photo, up to six gallery photos, and country — all optional, all editable, all visible only to you unless you choose otherwise.
Activity data. What you're tracking (joined, done, or private), when you joined, streak counts, and whether it's marked private.
Proof you post. Photos, notes, and your visibility choice (public, private, or anonymous) each time you post proof of something you did.
Respect. A record that you gave respect to a specific proof, so the same proof can't be respected twice by the same person. It carries no message or identity beyond that.
Buddy conversations. The free-text messages you send Buddy, and its replies, saved so your conversation survives app restarts and syncs across your devices.
Diagnostic data. Basic crash reports and app-usage analytics (via Firebase Crashlytics and Analytics) to help us fix bugs and understand which features get used.
We do not use your data for advertising, and we do not sell it to anyone.
Using the app as a guest creates an anonymous account tied to your device — no personal information is required. Signing in with Apple or Google later doesn't create a second account; it links your existing guest data to that identity, so your history carries over.
We keep your data while your account is active. When you delete your account, we permanently delete: your proofs and the respect records on them, your profile and settings, your activity list, your Buddy conversation history, and your proof photos in Storage — then your sign-in identity itself. This happens immediately, not on a delayed schedule.
One narrow exception: respect you gave on other people's proofs stays recorded against those proofs (as an anonymous tally only) so their counts stay accurate — it's never linked back to your identity once your account is gone.
Do It Anyway isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has used the app and provided personal information, contact us and we'll remove it.
Your data is processed on Google Cloud/Firebase infrastructure, which may store or process it in countries other than your own. Google maintains its own safeguards for these transfers as our data processor.
If this policy changes materially, we'll update the effective date above and, where required, let you know in the app.
